There are only half as many active rigs in the Eagle Ford Shale region this week compared to a year ago, according to oil services company Baker Hughes.
Despite a recent rebound, the price per barrel is still far less than it was, and that means companies who drill for it and extract it are having to find ways to do it better, cheaper, and faster.
“When oil was at $100 a barrel, everyone was quick to spend a lot of money,” explains Brett Shellenberg, Marketing Director of Orion Drilling in Corpus Christi.
